Current Issue Of Retro Cars Magazine
With 2011 done and dusted and 2012 officially welcomed into our lives, we hope you’re looking forward to the automotive year ahead – we’d like to think it’s going to be a cracking 12-months for modified classic cars. And to kick-start our fresh year you’ll have noticed we’ve brought you something a little out of the ordinary on cover, in the shape of Jason Ferando’s Alfa Romeo 155 DTM replica. The car might look like a full-blown track-orientated monster, but if you look closer you’ll spot two important details on the exterior that allowed it to grace our cover slot: number plates and a tax disc! What this means is that Jason and original owner/ builder Lee McMurchie have essentially built their take on a road-going DTM car, and a none too shabby one at that. We’ve always had a passion for the DTM German touring car series in its old guise, mainly as the cars had such huge track presence, visual style and some fantastic engineering details. So to see a road-going replica built to such a high standard as this, based on an iconic boxy Alfa too, really did it for us. Did we mention that it’s powered by Fiat’s renowned 20-valve turbo engine too? Italian heaven? We hope you like what you see, even though the car clearly pushes the envelope of what some people would define as a ‘retro’ vehicle.
I’ve also got to wave goodbye to my partner is crime this month, Deputy Ed Andy – I know, what will we do without him? Mr Basoo isn’t moving too far; he’s off to take up the role of Editor on sister title Performance BMW, so you’re sure to still see regular mention of him (and Project ’Matic of course!) in these pages in the future. I’d like to personally wish Andy well on PBMW, he’s been with RC since we re-launched the title together back in 2008, and his passion for the subject matter has been invaluable. I’m not sure he’ll be able to give up our staple diet of getting over excited about crusty old cars too easily, but I am sure that the mag will miss his input.
Just before I pop off for another month, there’s still time to vote in our 2011 Car Of The Year competition (if you’re quick!) you can vote electronically, it’s just for fun, and we’ll be announcing your top 3 cars from 2011 next month.
